READY
FOR PBS
Documentary
Competition & Tour
The
Goals of Ready
for PBS are to:
- Advocate
for quality, community responsive public broadcasting;
- Educate
the general public about how much better PBS can be;
- Promote
hard-hitting public affairs programming to PBS member stations
around the country;
- Build
membership and raise funds for CIPB chapters working to democratize
their local public broadcasting stations.
The
Ready for PBS Tour
is a national outreach effort by CIPB to draw public attention to
the mandate of the Public Broadcasting Service (PBS) to deliver
programming that creates a forum for debate and controversy. The
tour spotlights
PBS's
defacto discrimination of public interest films. It also provides
communities with concrete examples of meaningful PBS-quality programming
that is available to local public television stations.
The Tour consists
of the 6 winning entries in the Ready for PBS Documentary
Competition. All are films that fulfill PBS's mandate to contribute
to their community's understanding of contemporary social issues.
Currently,
the Ready for PBS Tour is scheduled to appear in 10 cities
around the country with 11 additional chapters in the process of
organizing that will be added to the roster of tour sites as plans
are finalized
