The
Arkansas CIPB Chapter helped get access for the third party
Greens and increase the vitality of debate over democracy during
this election season!!
Basil
Kyriakakis founder of the Arkansas Green Party an organization
not normally heard contacted the local media and a PBS station
in Jonesboro, AR recently...Called specifically to tell them
it was important that they come to an event---they came and
gave them 2 ½ minutes of coverage. Basil
stated his involvement in CIPB was instrumental in pulling this
off. Telephone calls were made to the (2) stations thanking
them for coming.
The
chapter plans to garner public support by having house parties
throughout the state and show Ready for PBS and other CIPB suggested
films and at the same time collect signatures on petitions in
support of putting the PUBLIC back into public broadcasting.

Cody
Ausler and Mollie Wiseman attended the KABF Board of Directors
meeting on August 28 at ACORN. Pat House, President, passed
out letter from CIPB that was mailed to all non-commercial radio
and tv stations to each bod member. She allowed Ms. Ausler time
to say a few words on behalf of CIPB.
Cody
Ausler and Mollie Wiseman will be attending the Arkansas Citizen's
First Congress conference from September 22-24 in Hot Springs,
AR. Everyone in the chapter continues to work hard at promoting
community responsive public broadcasting in the Natural State.

Chapter
contact, Cody Ausler, gives the following update:
"We
have the right people in place, with the right attitudes,
everyone is on one accord regarding CIPB's mission and where
we are trying to go. The training manual
is a big hit and gives us just what we needed most- direction."
A little
direction goes a long way. The Chapter has already started
coalition building by joining Arkansas Citizen First Congress
(63+ grassroots groups seeking public policy changes for the
state), sent letters to the FCC and urged others to do the
same, started educating "anyone who will listen on our
mission" by sharing info and showing the CIPB video,
and received coverage from the local
news Channel 11. All that after two meetings! Cody
Ausler also passed along some words of inspiration:
Community
Radio and Television was established to give a voice to the
voiceless, a face to the faceless; and to allow community
members to be part of the broadcast spectrum, to interact
with one another over the air and to share concerns in a way
that leads to more involvement by more people. Radio and Television
done this way is democratic, in the true sense of the word:
of, by, and for, the people. I am really excited about us
being selected as the 1st Chapter...and what that actually
means to us and to the citizens of Arkansas. We have a lot
of hard work ahead of us in educating our communities to the
mission of public broadcasting. Communication
is essential to Democracy.
